Due to the end of support for Adobe Flash, Teaching Textbooks 3.0 (online) courses have been updated to the 4.0 version which is app based.

Schools and teachers with multiple student accounts under one administrator’s email and password will have several options to upgrade students to the TT 4.0.

First, all teachers must set up a NEW password for their Teaching Textbooks account at https://www.teachingtextbooks.com/customer/account/forgotpassword/.

Option 1: Keep all students under the teacher’s account.

  • This option can only be used if teacher and students are working in a traditional classroom environment.
  • The teacher must download and install the course apps on his/her device, as well as on every student’s device. The teacher’s email and password must be used to set up the students’ access to their courses.
  • Teachers will have to perform the download on every student’s device personally. Teachers cannot give out their email and passwords to parents or students without compromising the privacy of all of the students on their account.
  • The teacher can view all of their students’ courses in one place at https://parentportal.teachingtextbooksapp.com/Home/Login

Option 2: Transfer the students’ courses from the teacher’s account to parent accounts with teacher giving up all access to the students’ gradebooks.

  • This option gives students the ability to work remotely. But parents will have both read and write access to the student gradebook and the teacher will lose access to the students’ gradebooks.
  • Using the Teaching Textbooks School Tool, teachers will need to transfer their students’ courses and gradebooks to parent accounts using each parent’s email. Go to https://schools.teachingtextbooksapp.com/ to use the transfer tool.
  • Parents will need to set up a password for a Teaching Textbooks account at https://www.teachingtextbooks.com/customer/account/forgotpassword/.
  • The students and parents must download and install the course apps onto all personal devices that they will use to access their courses.
  • If the students’ gradebooks need to be reported to an administrator or teacher, the gradebooks can be printed or saved as a pdf by the parent.

Option 3: Transfer the students’ courses from the teacher’s account to parent accounts but with the teacher still retaining access to the students’ gradebooks.

  • This option also gives students the ability to work remotely. Both parents and teachers will have the ability to read and edit the student’s gradebook.
  • Using the Teaching Textbooks School Tool, teachers will transfer their students’ courses and gradebooks to parent accounts using each parent’s email. Go to https://schools.teachingtextbooksapp.com/ to use the transfer tool. However, when using the tool, the teacher must also select the option to retain teacher access to the gradebook.
  • The students and parents must download and install the course apps onto all personal devices that they will use to access their courses.
  • Both parents and teachers can also access and edit the students’ gradebooks through the parent portal at https://parentportal.teachingtextbooksapp.com/Home/Login

Unfortunately, both Options 2 and 3 give parents the ability to edit grades. We are working on a feature that will allow teachers to limit parents to read only access to the gradebook. This feature will be ready before the fall semester.
